THE HISTORIC CENTER (OLD TOWN) OF TALLINN is an exceptionally well-preserved and complete medieval northern European trading town on the Baltic Sea coast. The city developed as an important center of the Hanseatic League between the 13th and 16th centuries, that is to say at the time of the greatest activity of this vast commercial organization. What proves the exceptional value of the historic center of Tallinn is that it remains an outstanding example, remarkably well preserved and complete, of a medieval trading city in Northern Europe. The capital has about 480,000 inhabitants.
